Optional Further Information

LEAP (Learning Early About Peanuts) Study:

The LEAP Study is a clinical research study that aims to determine the best strategy to prevent peanut allergy in young children. Two approaches will be tested in the study - the avoidance of peanut in infancy (as per current Department of Health guidelines) and the measured, repeated consumption of peanut-containing foods in infancy. Study is expected to be completed in 2013.

EAT (Enquiring About Tolerance) Study:

This study is designed to determine whether early (at 3 months of age) introduction of six allergenic foods (cow’s milk-based yogurt, egg, fish, wheat, sesame, peanut) into the diet of unselected infants, together with continued breastfeeding, compared with later (at 6 months of age) introduction with continued breastfeeding will have an impact on the risk of food allergies at 3 years of age.
